The University Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital “Maichin Dom” is the biggest specialized hospital of that type in the country with a capacity for 394 patients and nearly 4000 births annually. Most of them are in complicated pregnancies with accompanying medical disorders that require intensive care and operative delivery.

Gynecological operations are among the most important of our activities. Between 7000 and 8000 surgical procedures have been performed annually in the three gynecological clinics in the recent years. Two thirds of them belong to  the most extensive surgical interventions in the fields of general gynecology, urogynecology, oncological gynecology and reproductive medicine.

The Maternal Risk and Fetal Medicine Clinics take care of women with complicated  pregnancies or accompanying disorders like hypertension, diabetes, cardio-vascular disorders, infections and other diseases. A significant part of the activities of these clinics is directed towards assessment of perinatal risks, prenatal screening and prenatal diagnosis of congenital fetal anomalies. In conjunction with another hospital structure – The National Genetic Laboratory, they ensure the leading position of our hospital not only in Sofia, but in the whole country in the fields of prenatal and postnatal screening and diagnosis of genetic diseases. Another clinic that is unique for the country is the Neonatology Clinic. It has capacity for 110 babies and provides intensive care for newborns with very low and extremely low birth weight.

The hospital has an Outpatient Diagnostic and Counseling Block with the following offices: general gynecology, high risk pregnancy, termination of pregnancy, ultrasound diagnosis, infertility and gynecologic endocrinology, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, oncological prevention, urology, internal diseases, anesthesiology, neonatology. The wards of imaging diagnostics and of   immunohematology and transfusiology  are also part of the Outpatient Block. Four laboratories are located on its territory: clinical, clinical microbiology, clinical pathology  and semenologic one with a sperm bank,
The seat of the Central Commission for Pregnancy Termination for Medical Reasons is also located here.
